VIMAN NAGAR LABOUR CAMP 2021

Every Saturday from 2-4 PM, Idhant Sustainable Education Foundation conducts sessions at Aadhar Bal Angan Sanstha, Viman Nagar, Pune in partnership with Aadhaar Samajik Sanstha, an NGO whose major focus is to create awareness among the marginalized about the importance of education, personal/community health and hygiene, and conserving the environment. They value people-centered development through the conduction and execution of programs with a strong base in social work and work for the protection of the rights of women and children.​

 

In these two hours, we teach English to a group of 40 children studying in grades ranging from the first to the ninth. We also conduct fun and enriching events like festival celebrations and birthday celebrations during this time. session 1: 10th july 2021

On 10th July 2021, we conducted our introductory session at Aadhar Bal Angan Sanstha, where we interacted with the children on a personal level, conducted games, and just danced around a little to set the base for our upcoming sessions!  

session 2: 17th july 2021

In our second session on 17th July 2021, we taught the children at Aadhar Bal Angan Sanstha basic English words under categories such as fruits and vegetables! We also had time set aside for singing and rhyming games!

session 3: 24th july 2021

Our third session at Aadhar Bal Angan Sanstha was on 24th July 2021. where we divided the children into groups based on their grades in school and taught them how to write, pronounce alphabets and numbers! The children were also taught to distinguish between animals through fun activities like fill in the blanks and match the following! The session ended with a dance activity and a few games!

session 4: 31st july 2021

The theme for our fourth session on 31st July 2021 was “Friendship Day,” usually celebrated on the first weekend of August. During this session, we played fun Friendship Day-themed games like a matching game, a crossword, and dumb charades! We also covered greetings, alphabets, animals, numbers from one to twenty, and fruits as a part of our English sessions. 

session 5: 07th august 2021

Our fifth session at Aadhar Bal Angan Sanstha on 7th August 2021, was an informative and educational session. We covered English sessions that included greetings, phonetics, numbers, animals, fruits, permissions, and the golden words - please and thank you! We ended the session with a dengue awareness segment. 

session 6: 14th august 2021

Our 6th session on 14th August 2021 was dedicated to celebrating Independence Day! We sang the national anthem, played fun games, and taught the children about national foods, national dances, national flowers, and national animals. The session ended with a flag-making activity and dancing! 

session 7: 21st august 2021

Our seventh session on 21st August 2021 was dedicated to celebrating and teaching the importance of the joyous occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The kids were taught about family relations and the history of Raksha Bandhan. The volunteers and the kids made beautiful Rakhis to give to their loved ones. The kids were also taught how to greet with words like 'Congratulations' ,'Please', and 'Thank you'. The kids were also taught how to ask for permission by using phrases like -' May I come in', 'May I use this’ etc. During the session, we played number games to improve children's mathematical skills, such as saying 1 to 20 and skipping multiples of 5. The session ended with a great deal of laughter when all the groups came together to play “Simon says”, marking the end of the session. 

session 8: 28th august 2021

Our session on 28th August was dedicated to revising basic English taught in previous sessions, such as numbers and shapes! Additionally, we taught the children primary and secondary colors and even traffic signals! The session ended on an exciting note as we distributed bangles and fun toys to the children!

Our session on 11th September was dedicated to celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, which celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom and prosperity. Here are some glimpses! 

session 11: 18th September 2021

On 18th September, Idhant collaborated with Mrudang Academy at our weekly Viman Nagar Offline Volunteering session, which allowed these kids to dance their hearts out. During the first half of the session, the kids were taught cute steps to various famous songs. The next part of the session was dedicated to revising previously taught English!

Our session on 2nd October was dedicated to celebrating Gandhi Jayanti, the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation! The kids were taught about his life and contribution to the country! Here are some glimpses!

session 14: 9th October 2021

During our session on 9th October, we conducted regular English classes! This week, we focussed on phonetics, consonants, vowel sounds, and vocabulary-building exercises, after which we revised what was already taught in our previous sessions!

session 15: 16th October 2021

Our session on 16th October was a rather fun one! We covered English lessons and included consonants, seasons, numbers, weekdays, months, and traffic signals as a part of our curriculum! To end the session on a lighter note, we did some coloring!

session 16: 23rd October 2021

Our session on 23rd October involved us perfecting introductions with the children! They can now introduce themselves proficiently! We also revised some of the topics we had covered in previous classes.

Our weekly session in Viman Nagar on 20th November included some English lessons and fun activities! We revised introductions and moved on to improving vocabulary and numbers! We then did action-based poem recitations and ended with some fun memory-based activities! 

session 20: 27th november 2021

​Our final session in November included a revision of most topics taught earlier and fun activities! We revised vocabulary, traffic signals, and numbers, post which we moved on to sentence framing. We then did a few action-based poems and thought about some fun riddles with the kids!

session 29: 23rd april 2022

On our session on 23rd April 2022, we conducted a Painting Workshop! Organized by Ms. Madhura and Ms. Tanvi,  the session yielded beautiful drawings and paintings! Refreshments for the session were provided by Mr. Sushant. Team Idhant also donated drawing books, rulers, pencils, erasers, and necessary stationery items!

session 30: 30th april 2022

Our final session in April was a continuation of our session on 16th April. It was based on pictures and depicting them in English. We also covered poem recitations, three-letter words, numbers, and homophones - similar-sounding words with different meanings! Finally, to end the session with some fun, we played Pictionary! 

session 31: 7th may 2022

Our session on 7th May was based on a fun activity! We showed the children pictures and asked them to depict them in English. We also covered sight words, simple three-letter words, and revised introductions, shapes and colors, vowel consonants, and numbers.  Finally, we ended the session with a poem recitation!

session 32: 21st may 2022

Our session on 21st May consisted of English lessons! The children continued the last session’s activity of viewing pictures and learned how to describe them in English. They also learned compliments and complaints, revised vocabulary, days of the week, and odd and even numbers!

Our session on 11th June was delightful and rather yummy! It included a story recitation session along with flashcard lessons on 3 letter words, different shapes, fruits, and vegetables. The kids also learned a series of compliments to exchange with each other. The session included special kulfi treats sponsored by Ladachi Kulfi. 

session 36: 18 June 2022

Our session on 18th June was supported by volunteers from RCVM! Our session included fun learning and games! We spent the first-hour revising topics like the basic introduction of oneself, colors, and numbers. The kids also learned new topics like "How to take a compliment," three letter words, talking on the phone, and even currency! The next hour was spent playing fun games conducted by members of the Rotaract club, followed by some snacks!

session 37: 25 June 2022

Our session on 25th June was dedicated to English lessons! The children learned about the parts of sentences and read from passages! We also revisited familiar topics and revised the curriculum previously taught to them.

session 38: 2 July 2022

Our session on 2nd July was a themed event - Monsoon!  The children learned all about rainwater harvesting, the water cycle, and various water bodies. It was followed by an exciting game of Tambola and making cute little paper boats. We also celebrated the birthday of Ms. Soniya, who donated umbrellas and provided tasty food for the children!

session 39: 23 July 2022

Our session on 23rd July 2022 was a fun-packed, exhilarating session! The children enjoyed playing several games, including Heads-up, card games, one-on-one conversations + Q/A, and more! The highlight of the session was Dolly and Nilesh’s contribution - yummy khakras, chocolates, and laddoos for the children! 

session 40: 30 July 2022

Our session on 30th July was spent revisiting previous topics with the children based on their progress and taught a few new things along the lines of conversation starters, introductions, vocabulary, spellings, shapes, colors, and numbers! We also conducted a very special activity in association with RCVM in anticipation of Raksha Bandhan on 11th August - A Rakhi Making Activity!

session 43: 27 august 2022

On August 27th, our budding Grammar nazis learned all about prepositions, articles, and punctuations! Virtually travelling the world, basic Geography lessons were taught to students in grades 9-10. Our tiny tots, 4-5 year olds, drew art on the upcoming favourite festival, Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganpati Bappa Morya!
